Terms of Service

Welcome to Vocabeelary. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Vocabeelary iPhone app and the website at vocabeelary.app (together, "the app"). By creating an account or using the app, you agree to these Terms. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information.

The short version

You need to be 13 or older, and have a parent's or guardian's permission if you are under 18 (or the age of majority where you live).
Vocabeelary is free during the beta. If that changes, you will see the price before you pay anything.
The AI tutor has fair-use limits, and what it writes can be imperfect.
Vocabeelary helps you study. It cannot promise a particular test score.
You can delete your account in the app at any time.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use Vocabeelary. If you are under 18, or under the age of majority where you live, you may use the app only with the permission of a parent or guardian, who agrees to these Terms on your behalf.

2. Your account

You sign in with Apple or Google, and your use of those sign-in services is also subject to their own terms. You are responsible for the security of the Apple or Google account you use, and for activity under your Vocabeelary account.

You can delete your account at any time: open Settings, scroll to the very bottom, and tap Delete Account. Deleting it permanently removes your progress and settings, as described in the Privacy Policy, and cannot be undone.

3. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

Use the app for any unlawful purpose
Attempt to disrupt, reverse-engineer, or gain unauthorized access to the app, its servers, or other users' data
Use bots, scripts, or other automated means to access the app or its AI tutor, or to copy its word list, sentences, or memory hooks in bulk
Abuse, overload, or try to get around the usage limits on the AI tutor

We may suspend or end your access if you break these Terms or put the app or other users at risk.

4. The AI tutor and AI-generated content

Some content, such as memory hooks and extra example sentences, is written by an AI model. It is meant to help you learn and may occasionally be inaccurate, awkward, or not quite fit the word's meaning. If a hook doesn't fit, ask for another. We filter this content, but we cannot review every result before you see it.

AI-generated hooks and sentences are added to a shared library that other Vocabeelary users can be shown. They are generated from the word alone and contain nothing you typed or anything about you.

The AI tutor has fair-use limits, including a monthly limit per account and a short-term rate limit, and it may be unavailable at times. When it is, you can still study with the hooks and sentences already in the app. We may change these limits or the AI provider we use.

5. A study aid, not a guarantee

Vocabeelary is a study aid. We do not guarantee any particular score, result, or outcome on the SAT^® or any other exam, and the app is not a substitute for a teacher or other professional educational advice.

6. Not affiliated with the College Board

SAT^® is a trademark registered by the College Board. Vocabeelary is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the College Board.

7. Price and future paid features

Vocabeelary is free during the beta. If we introduce paid features or subscriptions, they will be sold through Apple's App Store under Apple's terms, and the price and what you get will be shown to you before you buy. Nothing will be charged without your confirmation in the App Store.

8. Apple and the App Store

If you downloaded the app from Apple's App Store, your use of it is also subject to Apple's Media Services Terms and Conditions. These Terms are between you and us, not Apple, and Apple is not responsible for the app or its content, for maintaining or supporting it, or for handling any claims about it.

9. Intellectual property

The app, including its design, code, word list, definitions, and example sentences, belongs to us or our licensors and is protected by law. We give you a personal, non-transferable, revocable permission to use the app for your own study. You may not copy, distribute, sell, or create derivative works from the app or its content except as these Terms or applicable law allow.

10. Changes to the app

We are still building Vocabeelary. We may add, change, or remove features, and we may stop offering the app. If we plan to shut it down, we will try to give reasonable notice.

11. Disclaimers

The app is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, to the fullest extent permitted by law. We do not promise that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that your data will never be lost.

12. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for any loss of data, arising from your use of the app. Some places do not allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you, and nothing in these Terms limits rights you have under law that cannot be waived.

13. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will post the new version here with a new effective date, and for significant changes we will also let you know in the app or on this site. If you keep using the app after the new Terms take effect, you accept them. If you don't agree, you can stop using the app and delete your account.
